OWD
hosts our traditional neighborhood holiday gathering to coincide with
Durham's Night of Lights. Warmth, hot cider and light refreshments will
be provided. Folks are asked to set out their holiday luminaries and
then bring canned goods for our annual food drive.

Any color bag is fine, and the outside of the bags
can be decorated as you wish with non-flammable materials. Fold
down the upper edge of the bag for stability. Fill the bag with
enough sand or kitty litter to weigh it down and to make sure the
sides son't fold in and touch the candle (about 1/6 full). Set a
candle firmly down into the center. Place your bags out where they
will not interfere with traffic or pose a fire hazard if they blow
over.
Some sources for bags, candles and kitty litter are: Kerr Drug, K-Mart, Eckerd, Morgan Imports and Not Just Paper. Sand can be purchased at Home Depot, The Rock Shop, or soil can be used from your own yard, as long as it is free of leaves or wood particles that may ignite. |
