Citizen Resources - GoTriangle.org Makes Planning Transit Trips Easier

GoTriangle.org is the on-line resource for the public transportation information in the Triangle. This is the one-stop shop for schedules, route maps, and fare information for all the region's transit agencies.

The site now offers a regional high-tech method to plan a trip on a network of available routes to assist in providing door-to-door services in Durham, Orange and Wake Counties.

Initially, the site provides customized door-to-door trip itinerary planning for Triangle Transit Authority, Chapel Hill Transit, Durham Area Transit Authority, and Capital Area Transit services.

According to Old West Durham resident John Tallmadge, Director of Commuter Resources at TTA and GoTriangle.org project manager, "This is a revolution in the way that we provide route and schedule information to our customers. We have vastly simplified the process - just type your starting point, your destination, and check the time; the trip planner does the rest."

A more advanced set of on-line tools is also now at the fingertips of customer service representatives at each transit agency. This gives them the power to provide more precise responses to callers, and eliminate the need to refer callers to other transit agencies for information about their schedules.

GoTriangle.org also provides direct links to all the route search pages for the regional public transportation agencies, and RDU Airport, Greyhound/Trailways, SmartCommute, and traffic cameras. We envision using GoTriangle.org to promote services specific to the time of year (e.g., airport connections at the holidays) or to special events (e.g., Tarheel Express services to UNC sporting events). Early next year, people interested in carpool/vanpool matching will also gain access to those forthcoming on-line services through this site as well.

TTA is a regional public transportation provider, offering a wide variety of transit and vanpool services to North Carolina's greater Triangle Region and outlying counties. Bus service is available to Apex, Cary, Chapel Hill, Durham, Garner, RDU International Airport, RTP and Raleigh. The authority also provides commuter resources and hosts GoTriangle.org, the new on-line resource for the public transportation information in the Triangle. TTA plans to implement a 35-mile rail transit system with 16 stations connecting Durham, RTP, Cary and Raleigh, with shuttles linking RDU International Airport and RTP. The rail transit system is expected to be operational in late 2007 or early 2008, including the Ninth Street station.
