A celebration of musical tradition in Old West Durham

Showcasing traditional blues music of the Carolinas and West Virginia, the free fest featured three stages of music, including performances by Durham Piedmont blues guitarist John Dee Holman, along with Captain Luke and Cool John Ferguson, Lightnin' Wells, Abe Reid, Cootie Stark and more.

Tim Duffy (head of Music Maker Relief Foundation) called Roots on Ninth the largest gathering of Carolina Roots artists ever assembled.

Family activities, children's activity areas and food were also on hand. Festival benefited WNCU Radio, which broadcasted live from the event, and the Music Makers Relief Foundation, a non-profit organization that helps support pioneering Southern roots musicians.
